St Mauritius House is truly a home from home.

Residents have their own spacious self-contained flats, with modern facilities. In addition there are facilities such as a laundry, communal lounges, hairdressing and guest rooms for overnight visitors.

On site there is also the St Mauritius day centre where residents can fully participate in centre activities and use the restaurant should they wish. Supported Housing Officers provide a housing management service for residents, as well as monitoring tenants' well-being and facilitating community care. A Supported Housing Officer is on-site throughout the day. All the flats are fitted with an emergency call system.

Full and open consultation is at the heart of Lewisham Park Housing Association's relationship with all its clients. We believe in total respect for every individual no matter the level of his or her support needs.

Many People misunderstand sheltered housing schemes. They may have memories of their grandparents in 'an old peoples home' and imagine rows of elderly people sitting in chairs in front of the TV all day. But it's not like that at St Mauritius House; the apartments offer plenty of rooms for possessions, guests and personal space. Neighbours regularly pop in to see each other and check each is Ok. And most importantly of all, everyone has absolute choice over how they run their lives.

What St Mauritius House provides is safety, comfort, community and a home for life for those elderly people who can no longer look after themselves.

There is music twice a day, board games, needlecraft, art and flower arranging, plus bible class and a religious service once a week. Every morning there is newspaper reading to enable residents to stay in touch with issues of the day and reminiscence sessions that offer the residents opportunity to talk about their lives in the Caribbean and they experiences of coming over to England.

In fact St Mauritius House offers more than any of our own homes could. As well as the friendship, the activities and the great cooking, there is a fully fitted gym and a hairdresser/barber shop.

To ensure residents are fully involved in decisions over their home and their lives, we have monthly tenant meetings to which everybody is invited. All aspects of the life of St Mauritius House are discussed, such as meal, trips out, maintenance and staffing issues. These meetings are an important part of helping our residents feel engaged and in control of circumstances, thereby contributing to greater confidence and self esteem.
